Moss is the backbone of a forest ecosystem. Moss is very spongy so its great at filtering water/air. Its really good at preventing flooding and erosion by absorbing excess water and slowing down the flow. The moss also manages the micro-climate by increasing humidity. This in turn reduces temperature and prevents droughts. In the canopy of tall trees, moss breaks down into soil. This soil is almost 100% carbon. Canopy soil is extremely important in our fight against climate change.
